Remembering The Rev'd Stanley Baxter

Remembering a great friend to Inclusive Church

The Rev’d Stanley Baxter, The Rev Stanley Baxter former Joint Director of Holy Rood

House, Centre for Health and Pastoral Care, with The Centre for the Study of

Theology in Thirsk, North Yorkshire died on Sunday 21st August.

Stanley was a strong supporter of Inclusive Church, and together with his wife Elizabeth helped create Holy Rood House as a safe space of welcome. Inclusive Church were privileged to have 2 retreats at Holy Rood in the past couple of years, and values Stanley’s ministry.

Stanley died peacefully, with the most compassionate care from all the health team and carers, and immense love from family and friends.

Holy Rood House have given details of Stanley’s funeral.
“Stanley's funeral will be held on
Tuesday 6th September at St.Oswald's Church, Sowerby, Thirsk at 1pm. There will be coffee and simple refreshments from 11am at Thorpe House, next door to Holy Rood House, and the local Royal British Legion Band will lead us from the Church to Holy Rood House to share a meal together, following the burial. If anyone wishes to add something towards the buffet meal - just pop it in to Holy Rood House before or after the service.

On the Monday evening the coffin will be received into the Church and there will be a said Eucharist to which anyone is most welcome. I am not sure of the timing yet so if you wish to be present please phone 01845 522580 for details.

Stanley expressly asked for any of his friends and family who are clergy - to robe if they would like to - in Alb and white stole or what is right for you. Please do let me know if you are going to do so. You would need to arrive at St Oswald’s by 12.30. If you find parking difficult - there is likely to be room in the Tesco’s or Lidl car parks nearby.

As you may imagine we will have simple flowers from the garden at Holy Rood. For those who would wish to make a donation it will go towards the new chapel to garden doors and refurbishment of the chapel at Holy Rood House, which commences later in September, in support of the healing ministry to which Stanley was called.

Thank you for your love and prayers and as Stanley would say 'for being YOU'.”
